7 Tips for Transitioning from Crib to Bed

April 20, 2010

How do I move my toddler from crib to bed?  At what age do I move my toddler from crib to bed?  Is there any easy way to make the transition? So many questions from so many concerned parents.

We have researched and come up with 7 tips that will help to make the transition from crib to bed just a bit easier.  Keep in mind that each child is unique in his or her own way and the transition from crib to bed will be an individual experience, no two transitions will be alike.

1) Encourage your toddler to help pick out the new bed.  Let him put his favorite toys and blankets in bed to make it more comfortable and familiar.

2) When setting up the new bed try to set it up in the same place as the crib was.  This will give your toddler a sense of security and familiarity.

3)Don’t forget to buy guard rails to prevent your little one from falling out of bed.

4) Follow the same routine as you do every night when putting your toddler to bed.  If you usually sing to him, sit at the edge of the bed and sing or read a story…whatever the routine was in the crib, do the same in the bed.

5) Keep the routine of “requests” to a minimum.  If your toddler asked for water every night before going to sleep, have the water handy ..anticipate the requests before leaving the room

6) Be firm about staying in bed.  When you say goodnight make it known that it is now time to say goodnight.  Try to limit and eliminate the getting in and out of bed.  Your toddler will try to experiment with this new found freedom.

7) Most importantly take it slow.  If you are transitioning from crib to bed because of need for the crib ( a new baby on the way) do the transition slowly, many months before the baby is due.  If you are transitioning from crib to bed because of climbing out of the crib or toilet training expect anything…

Remember that whatever the reason for the transition some children find it easy while others find it hard.  Take your time, have patience and the transition will happen.  When questioning what age to make the transition from crib to bed there is no “right” age.  The age range is usually from 1 1/2 to 3 years depending on the child and the need.  The later age is usually an easier age to transition from crib to bed.

Just one more thing to keep in mind and try to make the transition easier.  To eliminate the problem of  blankets falling on the floor in the middle of the night and the worry that your toddler will be cold take a look at the Grobag bedding.  From the same makers of the fabulous grobag baby sleeping bag you find that Grobag Bedding is uniquely designed for that transition from crib to bed.

With the grobag first duvet bedding set, the cover can be securely attached to the fitted bottom sheet using a zip system on both sides, so it’s easy for your little one’s to get into bed, but you’ll have the peace of mind that they can’t fall out! Plus the pillowcase is also attached to the bottom sheet – eliminating the risk of it going over their head in the night.

Planning the Perfect Baby Shower

April 8, 2010

Spring is here and that means it is baby shower season.   We have been asked over and over if there is some magic formula to making the perfect baby shower.  Truthfully…there is no such thing as a perfect baby shower but there is such a thing as having a fabulous baby shower!

Here is a check list that we have put together to help make that baby shower the very best:

1) Decide who will be planning the baby shower, you? Family members? Friends?  It is usually easier to have more than one person planning but too many is really not a great thing.

2) Decide on the date of the baby shower, usually it is about 6 weeks before the due date.  Don’t forget to make sure that the expectant parents are available on the date picked ( that was my first mistake when I planned my first baby shower:)

3) Decide on a time for the baby shower and how long it should last.  From experience it should not last more than 2 hours…have your guests leave with smiles and laughs thinking that they would have loved to stay longer.

4) Decide on a theme for the baby shower and carry it through the whole shower.  The theme should be on the invitations, decorations, favors, food and if possible games ( but not too many games)

5) Decide on the guest list and number of guests to be invited to the baby shower.  Have the expectant parents help you out with this so that the guest list will be the best guest list possible.

6) Decide on a budget taking into consideration that you can expect to spend approximately 10% over budget. Once you have a budget in place you can decide on the location of the baby shower.

7) Send out the invitations with the date, time, location and directions to the baby shower.  Indicate how to rsvp to the invitation, phone, email or snail mail.

8) Make lists…check off what is done so that nothing is missed.  Plan the menu.  Include serving trays and pieces, cutlery, glasses, napkins, chairs, tables, hot plates etc.  Rent? Borrow? Not needed?

9) Have everything set up before the guests arrive.  Keep all baby shower props in one place such as games, paper, handouts and pens so that you don’t have to go looking for them.

10) Enjoy!!!!!!

Oh yes, don’t forget if you are looking for that perfect baby shower gift visit www.petiteposh.com !

Pretend Play – Baking Set for Kids

April 6, 2010

Baking…my favorite pasttime! I absolutely love to bake ( hate to cook!). When my daughter was young I made her an apron, tied her hair up in a kerchief and we would bake together.  Until today she remembers Mommy and Lee baking time as wonderful.

Here is something I wish I had back then.  A wooden baking set for children.  This kids baking set comes with a mixer, a rolling pin, baking pan and 2 chocolate chip “cookies”, spatul &  measuring spoon. The rolling pin even rolls back and forth!

This fun wooden baking set for children will be available this week for a very limited time.
