Safe Toys?

February 24, 2010

I have recently been asked by numerous clients what the guidelines are for purchasing a safe toy.

Funny, but when my kids were small that was never an issue. We actually never even thought about a toy being not safe. We would look for sharp points, small pieces that could accidentally be swallowed but that was about the extent of our concerns.

Today there are many many many concerns! Here are a few tips to help you make an educated decision when purchasing a toy.

1) Any and all fabric on the toy should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant

2) Stuffed (plush) toys should be washable.

3) Painted toys should be covered with lead-free paint. 4) Art materials should say nontoxic

5) Crayons and paints should say ASTM D-4236 on the package, which means that they’ve been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials Don’t forget…. hand-me-down toys may have sentimental value but probably don’t meet with todays safety standards.

Grobags are Great!

February 19, 2010

Grobag baby sleeping bags are great because:

1) Keeps baby at the right temperature all night long.

2) Baby stays safe in the Grobag, no slipping under the sheets and blankets.

3) Baby can find its pacifier or play and go back to sleep with no danger of squirming out  of the covers, the Grobag baby sleeping bag always stays in place.

4)  Pick the tog of your choice for a vacation spot, whether it be hot temperatures or a cold ski holiday there is a grobag baby sleeping bag with a tog to match the weather.

5)  The Grobag baby sleeping bag makes it very difficult for your toddler to climb out of bed or crib.

6) Prevents little feet from getting stuck between the slats.

7) There is a stylish grobag for every fashionista baby!

And just in case you have no idea what a Grobag baby sleeping bag is:

A grobag® baby sleeping bag is a wearable blanket that will keep your baby at a comfortable temperature all night long. A safe and sound night’s sleep for your baby means peace of mind and more sleep for you!

Until quite recently baby sleeping bags were a little known form of bedding in the UK. Convinced of the inherent safety benefits and the related improvement in sleep for both child and parent, in 2000, Rob and Ouvrielle Holmes, working in close partnership with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death (FSID), introduced grobag® baby sleeping bags to the UK.

As a result of grobag’s continued work with FSID and dedication to safety, grobag® are now the only baby sleeping bags to be recommended by FSID, our official partner in promoting safer sleeping for babies

Dresses for the Little Fashionista

February 17, 2010

We all know that little girls love to dress up.  They love to dress in pretty clothes, dresses, shoes, anything that will make them feel pretty and feminine even at the earliest age.

Winter is a time for bundling up ..go explain that to your little fashionista.

Keeping this in mind I went on a search to bring dresses that can be layered with reversible fabrics that little girls can wear in the winter.  Dresses that will take these little girls from winter to summer without breaking the bank.

These reversible tie dresses can be worn over other clothing to keep warm in winter and worn alone in warmer weather.  These little girl dresses are reversible so they look like 2 dresses in one!  You can’t get any more budget concious than that!

Valentine Treat – Tasty and Delicious!

February 12, 2010

seem to always wait for the last minute for everything!  I admit it, I procrastinate.  Although I love to be “crafty” when I leave my creative project for the last minute I feel rushed and don’t enjoy what I am doing at all.

This year I wrote on my calendar ( yes, wrote, not entered in my blackberry but pen to paper wrote) a week before Valentine Day to get my act together and buy whatever is needed for an easy Valentine recips.

It is now 4 days before Valentine Day.  I have forwarded my note in my calendar every day since February 7th…..yup, still procrastinating.

Here is the easy, simple and quite yummy Valentine treat that I will be making………eventually!conversation-heart-fudge-valentines-day-recipe-photo-420-FF0203VALENA12 Valentine Treats - Lovingly Easy

Ingredients:

  • DARK CHOCOLATE LAYER:
  • 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Dash of salt
  • WHITE CHOCOLATE LAYER:
  • 1 1/4 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • Dash of salt
  • OTHER INGREDIENTS AND MATERIALS:
  • Aluminum foil
  • 64 conversation hearts
  • 64 red foil bonbon cups or mini muffin cups
  • Clear or red cellophane wrap, cut into 64 5- by 6-inch rectangles
  • Sparkly pipe cleaners in red, pink, or silver
Instructions
  1. Line an 8-inch square pan with aluminum foil. Set aside.
  2. In a medium-size, microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate layer ingredients. Microwave the mixture on high at 30-second intervals until the chocolate is melted (about a minute), stirring at each interval. When the mixture’s smooth, use a spatula to spread it evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. In another medium-size microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate layer ingredients. Repeat the melting process as described in step 2, but stir at 20-second intervals, as white chocolate tends to scorch easily. Spread the white chocolate evenly over the dark chocolate layer.
  4. While the fudge is still warm, use a knife to gently score it into 1-inch squares, then put a candy heart on top of each square.
  5. Chill the fudge uncovered in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until firm. Lift the foil to remove the fudge from the pan and place the whole hunk of fudge on a cutting board. Use a large knife (a parent’s job) to cut apart the squares, then peel off the foil from the bottom.
  6. Place each fudge square into a foil bonbon cup or mini muffin cup. Center the cup on a cellophane square and wrap it as shown on page 53, using 1-inch pieces of pipe cleaner to secure the ends. Makes 64 bite-size pieces. Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator for added firmness.

(I can’t take all the credit for this easy recipe…I found it on Disneys Family Fun website…enjoy!)
