Bathing Baby

You are just home from the hospital with your precious baby.  Reality is now setting in, where to begin?  You know you are going to be the best parent ever, no question there.  Then you realize there are so many other things to consider.  Besides loving your baby with beyond any emotion you have ever experienced you need to keep your baby well fed, warm and clean.

The first bath can be intimidating for all parents, experienced or otherwise.  Here’s how to bathe baby and what you’ll need to make baby-bathing easy. With any luck, his bath will become one of the most enjoyable parts of your days together:

1.Assemble all necessary bath accessories close to the bathing area and in easy reach.

2. Fill the tub with 2 to 3 inches of water that feels warm but not hot, about 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).  You can dip your elbow in and if the water feels luke warm that is about right.

3. Make sure the bathing area is warm and free of drafts.  Bring your baby to the bath area and undress him completely.

4. Gradually slip your baby into the tub, using one hand to support his neck and head. Pour cupfuls of bath water over him regularly during the bath so he doesn’t get too cold.  Some parents find the Spa Baby Tub a great way to bathe baby as the baby is never really without water and stays snug and warm throughout the bath time.

5. Use soap sparingly (it dries your baby’s skin) as you wash him with your hand or a washcloth from top to bottom, front to back. Gently wash his scalp with a wet, soapy cloth. Use a moistened cotton ball to clean his eyes and face. As for your baby’s genitals, a routine washing is all that is needed. If dried mucus has collected in the corner of your baby’s nostrils or eyes, dab it several times with a small section of a moistened washcloth to soften it before you wipe it out.

6. Rinse your baby thoroughly with a clean washcloth.

7. Wrap your baby in a hooded towel and pat him dry.  The Kangaroo Towel is a product that is highly recommended.  You wear this hooded towel while bathing baby, then when you are ready to take the baby out of the tub, just slip him into the towels pouch.  Baby never gets cold and you can cuddle and make baby feel secure immediately.

8.  If his skin is dry, or if he has a bit of a diaper rash, you may want to apply a mild lotion after his bath.

Although some parents bathe their babies every day, until yours is crawling around and getting into messes, a bath isn’t really necessary more than once or twice a week. (Just wash his face frequently and thoroughly clean his genital area after each diaper change.) When you do bathe him, you may find it a little scary to handle your wiggly little one when he’s all soapy and slippery, so keep a good grip. Most babies find the warm water very soothing.

Big Kid Bedding

Making the transition from a crib to a bed is never easy.  It causes worry for the parents, constant checking up at night to make sure the little one has not fallen out of bed ( my 3 children never even woke up when they fell , just continued sleeping on the floor!)

No matter how much I tucked the blanket in under the mattress and pulled up the sheets, my kids were inevitably on the floor at around 2:00a.m.  I would have to wake my husband to help get them back in bed without waking them.

Since then Grobag (the most trusted name in baby sleeping bags) has come out with the greatest (in my opinion) of big kid bedding available in the market today.  Now available at www.petiteposh.com, Grobag bedding is an amazing continuation of the Grobag name.  Your child cannot fall out of bed in the middle of the night ( unless he is a mini houdini!) and with this bedding stays covered all night long. The pillow case is attached to the sheet so you can sleep worry free!

Here is a short video to see how the bedding comes together to give you and your little one a peaceful sleep.

Summer seems to be taking her sweet time getting to us.  Seems like we have one nice warm summery day and then rain and cool weather the next.

Crawling babies are notorious for scrape, rough and red knees.  Summer time is the worst as babies knees are not protected.  Now that the weather is still cool crawling babies need all the protection they can get.

We have put all of our Bees Knees crawling pants with knee pads on sale ….limited quantities so when they run out they are gone!

Hoping this small gesture helps in the tough economic times.  You can save anywhere from 17% to 33% on Bees Knees crawling pants with knee pads.

Sun Hats For Every Mood

June 12, 2009 by petiteposh

My granddaughter Maia is turning one in a few days.  I can’t believe the year has gone by already.  Is it true when they say the younger you are the slower the years pass, the older you are the quicker they go?  I never really understood that until now.  But I digress!  Maia is turning one year and one of the challenge that come with that age ( in the summer months) is getting her to wear a sun hat.

She is constantly tugging at it and pulling at it.  Some of the sun hats don’t have a brim wide enough to actually protect her face and some the brim is too big, disrupting her vision.

I searched high and low and found what I think is the perfect sun hat. These hats are made of 100% cotton and are fully reversible.  Talk about moods!  You never know what mood your toddler is going to be in once you go out to the park…sometimes they are happy to see other children and share, sometimes not so much.

Check out these lovely convertible sun hats and let me know what you think!

Fathers Day gifts – The Homemade Kind

June 2, 2009 by petiteposh

Fathers day is just around the corner and we are all looking for a great fathers day gift, remember, it is not about how much we spend but about the meaning of the gift.  Unfortunately, many homemade fathers day gifts end up in the trash after a bit of time on display.

Here a few ideas for some useful fathers day gifts that your child will not only have fun making but Dad will display or use for a while.

Let your child pick out some of his favorite pictures, together take them to a copy store and have them made into a calendar.  Each month will display a different favorite picture of Dad and child

Buy an inexpensive clock that you can pop off the front glass.  Let your child color on the background of the face of the clock.  Pop the glass cover back in and your have an original artistic clock.

When in doubt you can always purchase an inexpensive picture frame from wood and let your creative child go crazy!  The picture frame can be painted, colored or even decoupage.

The important thing is to have fun creating a wonderful fathers day that will always be remembered by Dad and child.

From Baby Food to Solid Food…(Not so simple!)

May 28, 2009 by petiteposh

Today Lee came over with Maia and a huge dilemma!  She is transitioning Maia from puree to solid food and Maia hates it!

The eating problems started when when Miss Maia decided she preferred her bottle over puree.  After a very frustrating week  “Mom, she’s just not eating!” and “you don’t understand, she just won’t eat, she only wants her bottle” we decided that maybe not showing her the bottle until she has finished her puree food will help.  Sure enough, the bottle came out of the kitchen after all her food was finished.  One crisis under control!

Now Maia has decided she doesn’t like solid food.  She loves cheese and bread ( hmmmmm a carb girl!) .  Lee is trying to give her meat balls, fish, anything solid.  Even steamed carrots as she loves her carrot puree but nothing gets in that lovable tummy of hers.  She takes one bite, sucks on it and spits it out.

Any suggestions?
